Freedom Beach is one of the least accessible of all the Phuket beaches, but according to our contributors, it is the Best Beach in Phuket. Unless you are in the mood to trek a kilometer through thick jungle over private land, the beach is only accessible by boat. But if you enjoy spending a day in the sunny Phuket weather relaxing on a lounger, Freedom Beach is a good choice.
The beach itself is a stretch of beautiful powdery white sand that you will just love to walk on, the entire beach is secluded in a private bay. It almost looks like a setting out of a Hollywood movie. Surrounding the beach are hills covered in thick jungle, giving the entire place the feeling of an exotic beach hideaway. Unlike a lot of the popular beaches, Freedom Beach is cared for by the locals, ensuring that it retains as closet to its natural beauty as possible. There are a number of small restaurants along the south end of the beach if you fancy a bite to eat. Loungers are also available for rent on the top of the beach under the shade of the coconut palms.
There are no jet-ski’s or banana boats here, so nothing to spoil the peaceful atmosphere. The water is sectioned off into the north and south which are reserved for swimming, long-tails come and go from the center of the beach.
If you are staying in Patong Beach and want to get away from the crowds, or if you simply want to experience the natural beauty of Phuket Island, Freedom Beach is a perfect way to spend a day. Enjoy the relaxing environment lounging on a chair under the shade of a palm tree, sipping on a cold drink and letting all of your worries just drift away.
BEACH ACTIVITIES IN THAILAND
The south end of Freedom Beach offers some of the absolute best snorkeling on the entire island. Head on out into deeper water and you will find lots of coral and colorful tropical fish. There is a beach volleyball net and a few football goals set up on the beach if you are feeling sporty. The best activity at Freedom Beach is to just lay back and enjoy the beauty of the place.
GETTING THERE
As the beach is surrounded by private land, the only option is to enter by boat. The easiest way is to catch a long-tail boat from the pier area at the south end of Patong Beach, but that is also the most expensive way as it can cost about 1500 baht round-trip. You can also attempt to hire a boat from the north of Karon Beach or from Tri Trang Beach, but it will prove more difficult. Either way, the boat ride is about 15 minutes and you will pass by some beautiful scenery along the way.
